Happy Thanksgiving to All!!

Well as of right now, I haven't even had a fork of nuthin!
You know my people eat late...and we run late on just about everything! But its all good. My dad has the BIGGEST grin on his face to be able to use his new Deep Fryer (indoor). House smellin all good! The neighbor even brought a turkey over for dad to fry!

So on the menu we are having:
Turkey & Dressing
Honey Baked Ham
Mac & Cheese
Greens
Mashed Potatoes
Rolls
Candies Yams
Pies
Pound Cakes
Friendship Bread

All the above...heavenly goodness.

I started my morning out with community service with my beautiful Sorors of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, INC! We usually spend our time Thanksgiving morning serving the homeless. Their dinner is usually served around 11:00am . The crowd grows every year.

This year, we decided to do something different. While the crowds are waiting in line, we thought it would be a good idea to serve them breakfast. We offered a variety of donuts, assorted fruits and juice. It went very well. Since people start lining up around 8am, it worked out really well.
The community service is very rewarding. I even caught myself before I began to complain about how cold it was out there. I suddenly remembered BEFORE I uttered a word how alot of these families have NO shelter and have to live out in these conditions. So...I suffered through and served my community. Very humbling experience.

I was happy children of my Sorors were out assisting as it was a humbling experience for us all.

Here are a few pics:

On another note...wow. I already shed my tears today, but I miss my NANA sooo much. I miss all my loved ones who are no longer physically in my presence. Holidays, just doesn't seem to be what they use to be. I have alot of distant family members who I don't get to see often. Just wanted to let yall know I love you and missed you for the holidays. This is also the first Thanksgiving that my baby girl will be leaving me to go with her other half today.. =(
I know I can't be selfish. So I will suck it up and I will see her on her return.
I'm ready to eat...for real...like right now!
Happy Thanksgiving to all my family and friends!
XOXO
Tricia

Whut'chu Know About This!?

Yes Lord!
Its that good ole' Eggnog & Ice Cream Baby! Drizzled with a little bit of nutmeg!

You either like it or you don't...a lot of people don't really care for eggnog, but if you are an Eggnog drinker, you must try this....(I eat with a spoon, when ice cream melts, of course drink it!)

  • One of your favorite mugs
  • However many scoops of Golden Vanilla your heart desires
  • Pour Eggnog directly over the ice cream
  • Finally top it off with a few sprinkles of Nutmeg OR you can try Cinnamon.

So...this was one of my most favorite treats that me and my Nana enjoyed having together. Dang it! I can't believe she is gone still....but still here and forever here within spirit!

Love you Nana...CHEERS!!!!

Enjoy!

Also look for Harvey as he presents Ron Isley with a Lifetime Achievement Award at The Soul Train Awards.

Another special honoree is Singer Anita Baker. R Kelly is set to open the show, and his new CD, Love Letters, arrives in stores December 11th.

At the movies, it’s Denzel Washington’s new movie Unstoppable with Rosario Dawson.

Is the Tyler Perry film For Colored Girls a man-bashing movie? The movie, based on the stage play For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow Is Enuf by Ntozake Shange, did well at the box office taking in over $20 million, but a lot of men claim they felt insulted that there was only one positive male character. I loved the movie. I thought the performances were outstanding, and I didn’t feel it was a male-bashing movie. This is a woman’s movie. It tells a woman’s story of hope, abandonment, survival, struggle, abortion, rape and depression. I’m sure if the shoe was on the other foot and I was a man, I may have felt the same way. But, I don’t think male-bashing is the intended theme. What do you think? Let me know at Pattyjackson@clearchannel.com or Tweet me @mspattyjackson.

In more Tyler Perry news, his newest project will involve The Rock, a.k.a. Actor Dwayne Johnson. In the movie, Take My Wife, Perry plays a divorced man who doesn’t want to pay alimony to his ex-wife, so he goes about finding her a new husband. When he finds the perfect suitor for his ex, he realizes he still loves his wife and wants her back.

Iyanla Van Zandt is back with a new book Peace From Broken Pieces: How To Get Through What You’re Going Through. For the first time, Iyanla opens up about the past few years in which she lost her daughter, her home, her marriage and her short-lived talk show. She reveals how she hurt Oprah Winfrey and had to apologize for turning her back on Oprah. Today, she is the proud grandmother of 8, and in the book, she talks about how she refused to be defeated in the face of adversity. I loved this book, and I enjoyed hearing Iyanla talk about her journey when I had a chance to interview her. The book arrives in stores November 15th.

Congrats to Singer Anthony Hamilton and his wife Tarsha. They are the proud parents of twin boys.

Essence magazine is on the hunt for a new editor-in-chief. Angela Burt-Murray has left the magazine after five years. She has relocated to Atlanta to be with her family. What was behind Burt-Murray’s decision to leave the magazine? Could it have been her own decisions over the summer? She was heavily criticized when she hired a white woman to hold the position of fashion director. Sheryl Tucker, who served as the editor-at-large for Time magazine, will fill the position as interim editor-in-chief of Essence. The new issue of Essence magazine features the cast of Tyler Perry’s movie For Colored Girls.

CNN’s Soledad O’Brien has written her memoir. In the book, The Next Big Story, O’Brien talks about her rise in the broadcasting world and the challenges she has faced, including a run in with the Rev. Jesse Jackson who implied she wasn’t black enough.

Will Ice Cube be the next “Dirty Harry?” The Dirty Harry character was made famous by Actor Clint Eastwood in five films from 1971-1988. Now, Ice Cube has teamed up with New Line Cinema to play a character loosely based on Dirty Harry. In the movie, which they hope to turn into a franchise, Ice Cube will play a plainclothes detective who is quick on the trigger.

Also get ready for the Cirque De Soleil Show coming to the Wells Fargo Center on April 10th, 2012.

For Colored Girls

I did not write this, but it is definitely worth the read.

FOR COLORED GIRLS…..

When I first heard of the movie "For Colored Girls" I got so excited. I had the idea of getting as many women together that I could think of to go see this movie. I had visions of group discussions and moments shared with one another that would lead to healing and growth; I guess I kind of imagined a Women’s Empowerment Conference type of setting.

Well after I shared my idea with a few women, reality set in and I realized that so many of us wouldn't be willing to participate for various reasons: You don't like me, you don't care for somebody I might invite, you only hang out with certain people, you don't understand the big deal about Tyler Perry making yet another movie about black people and our issues for all the world to see, you don't like crowds, so n so is too ghetto, such and such is too uppity etc... It has ALWAYS amazed me that we as black women are each other’s biggest critics. We are the quickest to bring each other down, find each others faults and nit pick at a sister until she has nothing left, nothing left to give and then we step over her and call her worthless. We take the prettiest women and tear them down for thinking "they are cute" but turn around and dog the average sista because "she know she should take better care of herself than that - can't believe she got a man!" We don't discriminate, we talk about everybody!!!

I've watched women dog out everybody from Oprah for catering to white people and Halle Berry for not being able to keep a man to young Willow Smith for acting to darn grown in her recent video. All of these females are successful and there is something about each one of them to be proud of but a lot of us can't seem to see that. I have to wonder since we all share a common thread (whether we want to admit it or not) is there something about ourselves that we don't like, what has happened to us that we cannot seem to get along. Why is that we fight amongst ourselves, backstab & steal each others men (only to find out we should have left him where we found him). We cannot seem to be unified to support and stick up for one another. Everybody seems to be out for themselves while other groups unite against us but nobody else has to bring us down because we trample on the spirits of each other daily.

Even if you live in a mini mansion, drive a luxury car, have good credit, rich handsome husband etc, this does not mean that should look down your nose at the woman with 4 kids, no husband, living in income based housing struggling to keep her lights on. We ALWAYS think the grass is greener on the other side, I had a woman who's child father is MIA tell me that I should never complain because I receive a decent amount of child support and I laughed and let her know that I would gladly give every dime back if he would come relieve some of this overwhelming pressure of feeling inadequate as a parent. If I could get just one full night of sleep or not always be on the verge of losing my job because I’m the one that has to call off or leave work for one reason or another to accommodate my child - yeah he could DEFINITELY have his money if I could have some peace! Money alone doesn't make you happy (not true happiness), good credit doesn't keep you satisfied, beauty doesn't make you any less insecure, fame doesn't make you less vulnerable or cause you to be a good judge of character and being stuck up and mean doesn't keep you warm at night or prevent you from being lonely.

You don't know how the sista sitting right next to could have carefully put on her make up this morning to hide the beating from last night. The teacher you handed your child over to this morning could have sent her children off to school from a dark house with empty bellies. The teller you just got rude with at the bank could know that today is her last day on her job and have no idea how she is going to survive past next weekend. The sista at the office that appears so busy could be typing her goodbyes to all the people that she loves because she plans to blow her brains out tonight after she tucks her babies into bed. The woman you pass in the hallway could be on her way to have an abortion because she fears what others might think or how the woman that sent you this e-mail may drink an over abundance of alcohol every night to mask the nightmares of an abusive childhood.

Ladies we HAVE TO DO BETTER!!! I'm not suggesting that we all like each other and be phony, but I am asking that we all try to respect each other. You HAVE NO IDEA what the next woman is going through, you don't know what past or current hurt and pains have shaped her into who she is today. We spend so much time trying to be as strong and hard as we are expected to be that we end up cracking from the inside out piece by piece. If we would spend 1/3 of the time we spend tearing each other down to build someone up, encourage someone, show someone some love, we could truly make a difference and save someone's life. PLEASE don't be the straw that breaks another woman's back. Believe me when I tell you that there is a woman out there that needs your smile, your hug, your support, your prayer.

I hope that you read this and get something out of it other than a laugh and that you pass this on to as many women as you can to let someone know that you believe they are somebody special and that if need be you are available to listen. Nothing bad is going to happen if you don't forward this e-mail but I'd like to think that something positive will happen if you choose to pass it along. May favor be extended to each and every one of your lives, keep your head up and know that someone somewhere cares!!!

Interesting Facts...Food for Thought

Here are some pretty interesting facts. This post was found from a member of Scraps of Color. These are very interesting...

According to experts, everything you do in your daily life, from where you stand in fitness class to the place you choose to store your meds, can have a surprising effect on everything, from how much you weigh to how often you need to go to the doctor.

The Unhealthiest Place For Your Toothbrush: The Bathroom Sink

There's nothing wrong with the sink itself, but it’s generally right next to the toilet. There are 3.2 million microbes per square inch in the average toilet bowl, according to germ expert Chuck Gerba, PhD, a professor of environmental microbiology at the University of Arizona. When you flush, aerosolized toilet ickyness is propelled as far as 6 feet, settling on whatever is nearby, including the floor, the sink, and your toothbrush.

The Best Place: "Keep your toothbrush behind closed doors—in the medicine cabinet or a nearby cupboard," Gerba says.

The Unhealthiest Place For Your Gym Shoes: The Bedroom Closet

Walking through your house in shoes you wear outside is a great way to track in allergens and contaminants. One study found that lawn chemicals were tracked inside the house for a full week after application, concentrated along the traffic route from the entryway. Shoes also carry in pollen and other allergens.

The Best Place: Reduce exposure by slipping off rough-and-tumble shoes by the door; store them in a basket or under an entryway bench. If your pumps stay off the lawn, they can make the trip to the bedroom—otherwise, carry them.

The Unhealthiest Place To Cool Leftovers: The Fridge

Placing a big pot of hot food directly into the fridge is a recipe for uneven cooling and possibly food poisoning, says O. Peter Snyder Jr., PhD, president of the Hospitality Institute of Technology and Management in St. Paul, MN. The reason: It can take a long time for the temperature in the middle of a big container to drop, creating a cozy environment for bacteria.

The Best Place: It’s safe to leave food to cool on the counter for up to an hour after cooking, Snyder says. Or divide the hot food into smaller containers and then refrigerate—it'll cool faster.

The Unhealthiest Place To Set Your Handbag: The Kitchen Counter

Sorry, but that cute purse is a major tote for microbes: Gerba and his team's swabs showed up to 10,000 bacteria per square inch on purse bottoms—and a third of the bags tested positive for fecal bacteria! A woman's carryall gets parked in some nasty spots: on the floor of the bus, beneath the restaurant table—even on the floor of a public bathroom.

The Best Place: Put your bag in a drawer or on a chair, Gerba says—anywhere except where food is prepared or eaten.

The Unhealthiest Place To Use a Public Bathroom: The Stall In the Middle

The center stall has more bacteria than those on either end, according to unpublished data collected by Gerba. No, you won't catch an STD from a toilet seat. But you can contract all manner of ills if you touch a germy toilet handle and then neglect to wash your hands thoroughly.

The Best Place: Pick a stall all the way left or right to minimize germ exposure.

Place For a Nighttime Reading Light: Over Your Head

These fixtures put out relatively bright light—enough to significantly delay the body's secretion of melatonin, showed a 2000 study. That can wreck your night, since rising melatonin levels are a major cue for your body to prepare for sleep.

The Best Place: Clip a low-power light directly to your novel. It will let you read but leave the room dark enough for your brain to transition into sleep mode.

The Unhealthiest Place To Keep Medicine: The Medicine Cabinet

It's not uncommon for the temp in a steamy bathroom to reach 100°F—well above the recommended storage temperatures for many common drugs. The cutoff for the popular cholesterol drug Lipitor, for instance, is around 77°F.

The Best Place: Somewhere cool and dry, such as the pantry.

The Unhealthiest Place To Put Fruit Before Washing It: The Kitchen Sink

Of all the household germ depots, the kitchen sink sees the most bacterial traffic—even more than the toilet, says Kelly Reynolds, PhD, a professor and environmental microbiologist at the University of Arizona.

The Best Place: Keep fruit on the counter until you run it under the water. If that perfect blueberry drops while you're washing it, pop it in the trash—not your mouth.

The Unhealthiest Place To Store Coffee Beans: The Fridge

Think that you're preserving freshness by stashing it in the fridge? Think again. Every time you take it out of the fridge or freezer, you expose it to fluctuating temperatures, which produces condensation. "The moisture leeches out flavor—it's like brewing a cup of coffee each time," says John McGregor, PhD, a professor in the department of food science and human nutrition at Clemson University.

The Best Place: Store your beans or grounds in an opaque, airtight container kept on the counter or in the pantry.

The Unhealthiest Place To Watch TV: Wherever You’re Eating

Studies show that distraction is your waistline's enemy—it can keep you from noticing how much you're eating. In a 2006 study, volunteers ate faster when watching TV than while listening to music—consuming 71% more macaroni and cheese when watching a show.

If you have the tube on while cooking, turn it off before dinner at the kitchen table, and avoid being tempted into eating in front of the TV in the living room.

The Best Place: Up or down a flight of stairs or far away from the kitchen, so you have to "work" to get a snack—you'll be much less likely to eat too much.

Have a happy and healthy week!

What's the 4-1-1, Week of 11/7/10

At the movies, it’s Tyler Perry’s For Colored Girls. The movie is based on the 1975 play For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow Is Enuf by Ntozake Shange. I loved this movie adaptation. It was excellent. Janet Jackson, Whoopi Goldberg, Anika Noni Rose, Kerry Washington, Thandie Newton, Tessa Thompson, Loretta Devine, Phylicia Rashad and Kimberly Elise give performances that are going to blow you away. Perry has really grown as a filmmaker, and it shows with this movie. See for yourself and let me know what you think. This film touches on themes of love, longing, violence and betrayal. The cast of For Colored Girls is featured on the new issue of Essence magazine.

Janet Jackson is a standout in this film, and she has a new self esteem book coming out in January called True You.

On Friday the 5th, Tyler will be featured on Oprah with a special show focusing on men who have been the victims of sexual abuse as children. The audience will consist of 200 men telling their stories. A couple of weeks ago, Perry appeared with Oprah and revealed for the first time in detail the abuse he suffered as a child.

In more Tyler news, his newest project will involve The Rock, a.k.a. Actor Dwayne Johnson. In the movie, Take My Wife, Perry plays a divorced man who doesn’t want to pay alimony to his ex-wife so he goes about finding her a new husband. When he finds the perfect suitor for his ex, he realizes he still loves his wife and wants her back.

So how did Mariah Carey get pregnant? The 40-year old singer says with the help of acupuncture. Mariah is expecting her first child with hubby Nick Cannon, and the baby is due in the spring. Mariah’s latest holiday album, Merry Christmas II You, is out and on December 13th she will star in an ABC TV holiday special. Carey is also promoting her line of jewelry, footwear and fragrance on the Home Shopping Network.

Get well wishes go out to The Queen Of Soul, but we can’t help but wonder what’s going on with her? Aretha Franklin was recently released from the hospital. The 68-year old soul music legend is keeping mum on this mystery ailment.

Halle Berry’s latest movie, Frankie And Alice, arrives in theatres in early February. In the movie, Halle plays a woman who suffers from multiple personalities.

Montana Fishburne is responding well to rehab. The 19-year old daughter of Actor Laurence Fishburne made headlines earlier this year when she filmed her first porno movie. In addition to embarrassing her famous father, Fishburne stayed in trouble with the law when she was arrested for attacking her ex-boyfriend’s girlfriend. Fishburne entered rehab for anger management and behavioral issues.

Beyonce’s I Am……World Tour is available on DVD.

Wesley Snipes wants a new tax fraud trial. Snipes says the original jury was biased. He was found guilty of failing to file federal tax returns. He faces a three-year sentence, and he is free on bond while appealing.

Congrats to Omarosa. She’s having a baby. She has been dating Actor Michael Clarke Duncan. The two have been seeing each other for a while, and are very excited about their upcoming arrival.

Actor Idris Elba is notoriously quiet about his love life, but his baby momma is speaking out. Desiree Newberry is a stripper from Miami, and she is the mother of his six-month old son. Newberry says she and Elba lived together shortly after the birth of their son but have since split up.

Robin Thicke says fatherhood is the greatest joy he’s ever known. He says his new album will reflect that. Thicke and his wife, Actress Paula Patton, became parents earlier this year with the birth of their son Julian.

Get ready for the Thriller movie. Yes! The thriller movie is based on The King Of Pop’s epic music video. Kenny Ortega, Jackson’s longtime choreographer, will direct the movie which will feature the character legendary Horror Actor Vincent Price voiced in the video. Kenny Ortega is also the force behind the High School Musical movie franchise. Speaking of Michael Jackson, his videos are coming out on DVD. Michael Jackson’s Visions features over 2 ½ hours worth of classic videos by The King Of Pop. The DVD comes out on November 22nd.

Former Olympic darling Marion Jones has released a book about her life and stay in prison. In the book, On The Right Track, Jones says she wishes she had never lied about her steroid use. Jones lost everything: her medals, her home and her reputation. Jones, 35, says at one point she was put in solitary confinement for fighting a female inmate. She says she feared for her life. Jones was in a federal prison for six months. She’ll be featured in an upcoming installment of ESPN’s documentary series 30 For 30. She is the mother of three kids, and she was recently a member of the WNBA’s Tulsa Shock.

So what’s Oprah going to do when she wraps her show? A movie: she has signed on to do a film with Meryl Streep and Sandra Bullock. The Mighty O is wrapping up her 25th and final season of her legendary daytime talker. During the month of November, her special guests will include President George Bush, promoting his new book Decision Points, on November 9th and Barbara Streisand on the 16th.

Charlie Wilson is set to release his third solo CD, Just Charlie, featuring the song You Are.

It Coulda Been Worse...

Well to say the least, Monday morning was NOT the business....let me take you through the series of events that occurred before I even left the house...

Most of my readers know me personally and if ya don't know me too well you will soon find out more and more about me, so just read on, I will do my best to fill ya in and pretend you are reading my blog for the very first time.. =)

So let me take you back to the middle of the night, for starters I had woke up from a dream...and in the midst of waking up, noticed that someone had wet the bed...MY BED. SO I contemplate, do I get her up now or let her just sleep ( I know it may sound cruel, but the alarm was gonna go off shortly), so I let her be. SO I am immediately thinking, man, I gotta get this bedding washed...so my mom usually offers to do my laundry at times, (okay yes, I am a little spoiled), but she says her and Bre do it together..lol..ok fine. So I'm laying in bed...listening to the rain and just thinking of how many trips I am gonna have to take from my house to the car...IN THE RAIN.

So ...as I am laying there, I am thinking about the original reason I woke up in the middle of the night. (Remember this part)...I had a dream that my nana's (who joined the heavens above 3 years ago this month) car alarm was going off. I think in the dream we were at her house. Well the alarm woke us up out of our sleep we both woke up, jumped up, and rushed to the front door. She told me to stay in the house and she rushed outside with some makeshift pretend weapon...she chased off a handful of guys who were attempting to break into her car. (end of dream)

FAST FORWRDING..

So...After my 3 trips in the rain to my car from the house...on the 3rd trip, Bre is finally with me, I'm out the house for the day and we are on our way to grandmas. So...when I was loading my car I put everything in the trunk and at that time hadn't realized that SOMEONE HAD BROKE INTO MY DAMN CAR! I didn't notice until Bre was already in her car seat and I opened up my passenger door to put my purse on the seat. I see, some of my pads (girls always keep some for emergencies, 2 pairs of my sunglasses, a throw-a-way camera, my insurance cards...all in the passenger seat. So I thought to myself...WTH!? These items are USUALLY in my center console. As I am looking over the inside of my car...I notice the compartment next to the cigg lighter where i keep my change was EMPTY! Hmm...ok...some crackhead broke into my car...didn't take nuthin else but my damn money!

My CD's were not touched, I had 2 car chargers in my car and some little stuff...nuthin else was missing. So I get in the car cuz I am already running late.

The feeling I had was eerie knowing that someone had VIOLATED MY SPACE and was all up in my ish! So I try to get myself together, because I need to get to work!

Suddenly...I remember my dream! DAMN! Aint this somethin...my nana was tryna wake me up! Funny part is..I do not have an alarm on my car.

My car: Well thank GOD there was no damage. There was no forced entry which leads me to believe I must have accidentally left the doors unlocked. Well, nuthin I could do about it at this point.

So, I call my mom let her know what happened, but I am still on my way. I am still in disbelief as to what just occurred and that someone really was up in my car!
So I get to my moms house and make the trips back and forth to the car...again in the rain. I am still emotional at this point...and to my surprise...when I get a chance to speak to my mom she's all excited to show me this picture of my NANA that she just happened to come across...I mean no little pic, a big 8x10 pic. So...that's when I lose it...I miss my nana and she was all up in my space last night and tryna get my attention. **Nana I love you and miss you dearly**

My mom didn't quite understand why I was being so emotional...I just had to get to work. I was even a little snappy with my dad...but he kinda came sideways with me. So I was just like, "Im out!, I gotta go" So I am crying pretty hard at this point...completely an emotional wreck.

I called my mom later from work to let her know about my dream and she then understood why I was trippin...

So...anyway...that was my morning. I will be investing in a car alarm this week sometime.

But it could had been alot worse..broken windows better yet no car in my stall.

So I do remain blessed!

Halloween Pics and Random Goodness

Here is a little pic of "Fish Jones." This is fish supposedly belongs to Miss Breana Nichole. Breanna got this fish from her Aunt Ebony. Auntie wanted to get her this waaay our Aquarium with props and colorful this and that, etc! But this would then mean more daily/weekly chores for mommy! I barely have time for mommys chores! She got Bre a little Beta fish, sometimes I have to thump the side of the bowl to make sure she / he is still with us...and NO I don't know if its male / female! LOL! When we got the fish, we asked Bre what the fish's name was and she simply stated..."Fish Jones"...so ladies and gents...the newest member of our family..."Fish Jones"..lol.

Random Pic of Bre after her most famous lines of the evening: "Mommy Im Firsty" (Thirsty)
Mommy's Drink of choice...don't act like I am the only one who still as an adult enjoys Nestle Quik! Aint nuthin like an ice cold cup of milk with 2 tablespoons of chocolate! =) Yummy!

Me and Bre Bre on Halloween

Halloween Pics:

Melissa, Bre, Monica and Marcus (Bre's neighbor cousins) She calls most of her friends her cousins. These kids are pretty much family...they have been my moms neighbors for a long time...love the Malone Family!

Marcus chose to eat his popcorn ball over candy...wise choice! LOL!

It is typical for Bre to look the other way when taking a pic...it takes a few takes most the time.

Colored Girls

Colored Girls...

....well what can I say? The movie was great. I mean everyone is entitled to their opinions but I think it was a great movie. Strong words of poetry flowed in and out of the movie. The cast was phenomenal I personally feel they did great!

The funny thing is, is that the situations in this movie is reality. Alot of these issues surface within our community. I do not want to tell too much in case you have not yet seen the movie, but it is highly recommended.

Here is a great photo straight from the movie below.

A little somethin somethin about the movie:

The total idea for this movie came from the 1975 play, "For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enough", written by Ntozake Shange. The play was originally staged in California, but it’s found success both off- and on-Broadway -- the Broadway adaptation won a Tony is 1977 for best play.

Storyline
For Colored Girls tells the story of nine different women through poetry. It follows the women as they deal with many of life’s challenges, including love, heartbreak, rape and abortion. The women use their bond as strength to make it through the challenges and come out stronger on the other side. The main goal behind the original play was to showcase the strength of women and it definitely succeeded.

Big-name stars
Perry is known for bringing out the star power for his films, and For Colored Girls is no exception. The cast includes Janet Jackson, Whoopi Goldberg, Thandi Newton, Kerry Washington, Phylicia Rashad and Macy Gray. The stars bring A-list talent and depth to sensitive subject matter, and they make it relatable to women of all racial backgrounds
